Only Donkey and Princess Fiona call Shrek by his name.
Unlike a lot of princesses in animated movies, Fiona is tough and clever and can fight. She takes down Monsieur Hood and his merry men all by herself.
Lord Farquaad, who is really short, is actually voiced by someone quite tall, John Lithgow (who is 6 foot 3 inches).
A lot of classic colouring page characters from Disney movies also appeared in Shrek, even though it was made by Dreamworks, not Disney. Characters like Pinocchio, Gepetto, Peter Pan and the Magic Mirror from Snow White.
If you listen carefully you might recognise one of the voices of the Three Bears. Papa Bear was voiced by Eddie Murphy, who also voices Donkey in the movie.
Other key characters in the series are Gingy, Puss, the Fairy Godmother (who is not a good one at all) and Prince Charming.
Before Shrek was even finished, they had already started on Shrek 2, and soon after was followed by Shrek the Third, Shrek Forever After and a spin-off movie, Puss in Boots.
